Found this interesting article.
I realize said article it probably about a modern vehicle, and not our Vintage transmissions, but it’s interesting none the less.
And I believe it may have pertinence to some degree regarding our old trannys.

https://www.phoenixfriction.com/t-increase-in-transmission-gear-rattle-from-solid-flywheel-conversion.aspx

I have what I believe is this situation in my WC12 transmission.

This noise happens in neutral, truck running, clutch out.
Happens within a few minutes of run time( probably when the gear oil warms up)
Running 85/140 weight. Recently added one quart lucas oil stabilizer (really heavy) and it seemed to drop the noise a bit

My transmission:
Its a fresh rebuild with all new bearings and seals.
(Professional rebuild)
Shifter top rebuilt as well

I’ve torn the tranny apart to try and figure out this annoying “rattle” . All parts are clean and serviceable with no scores or wear on shafts and bearing surfaces.
There is nothing I can see that would make this noise.

Outside of the transmission itself I’ve replaced clutch, disk, pilot bushing, T/O bearing and resurfaced flywheel.

All components NOS parts or new.

In other words, there is absolutely no reason my transmission makes this noise.

But it does.

So I been researching and found that article.

So I thought, how can this happen to my transmission?
No one else ever reports this on other sites?

Or if they did, it ends up being a loose or broken part.

So my thought (and this is where I need opinions)
Is the following:

Transmission gears inside. Maybe said transmission was built up using different gears from different transmissions. Don’t know.

Could this be a cause? Gears worn unevenly? Or one worn more than the other where as it affects the contact surface harmonics? (Long shoot thought maybe?)

What else other that what the article describes?

I’d appreciate any input on this as a lot of you have been playing around with these trucks longer than I, and may relate to this?

Thanks
