For those of you looking to purchase Year of Manufacturer (YOM) plates off Ebay or elsewhere for your truck, plates for a car prior to 1963 can be used on a truck. I bought a pair off Ebay, which were car plates that I didn't know they were, and initially the DMV were not going to allow their use on a truck, but in looking at the vehicle code, they found a clause that allows car plates to be used. Plates I bought also had a tag which would not allow them to be used as YOM. If the plates you purchase have a tag, TAKE IT OFF prior to going to DMV. You can take it off using a heat gun and sharp knife without damaging the paint. There is an application for YOM plates you have to fill out as well. The folks at the DMV were very supportive in trying to get the plates in use, they realize the difficulty in finding YOMs for vehicles.
