On my "someday" list is putting a hydraulic winch on my WC1/2. Would an MU-2 (from a WDX) be a reasonable candidate for this? I've read the archives and Paul and others have provided some good info hydraulic conversion so I know it is okay for the PW (and I think M37), but not sure about the WC + MU2.
So my first question is - will an MU2 drop onto a 1/2ton winch frame and have room/proper angle for a hydraulic motor without much fuss? I understand that the angles are different between the MU and MU2, which is trouble for a PTO shaft, but I am thinking that hydraulics wouldn't be much of an issue in this regard.
Second - if going the hydraulic route with an MU winch, can I get one that is "less complete" in other ways? Is it the case that often the controls which wouldn't apply when using a hydraulic drive are often broken, worn or missing? I can get an otherwise less desirable MU winch (read: cheaper)?
I'd appreciate any advice on my quest for winch hydraulification.
