I would probably have one of the Harbor Freight electrics @ 12,000 lb capacity set up to pull from a hitch just to haul in the back of a rig to pull out backwards as that sometimes is the best option. I saw a magazine test on electric winches and the HF blew all the brand names out of the water.
We had a '41 WC before I was old enough to legally drive that spent about 6 hours winching to pull 2 rigs through several feet of snow during an Eastern OR elk hunting trip. Smoke rolling out of the gear case at times I was told. Not sure a hydraulic would have even survived that event. From that point on my uncle would say when snow started "three more flakes and I'm leaving!"
