PTO/420/v8 bellhousing clearance issues

Well we're thinking this is all a bolt in application but we find that the pto hits the bell housing. This is a hydraulic clutch bh, '61-'65 (we think) behind a poly318 and the 420 is the later civ syncro. Anyone seen this and what 420/pto combo is compatible with this bh? I know there's upteen combinations of bh/420/pto's. Given this clearance issue, someone must know the prob or solution? Which is a diff combination of parts? Tim H I know you talked to Frank on this about a idler insert between the pto and bh? The truck is a WDX.
