As I progress with the ear down of my truck, I am wondering what path to follow motor-wise. Do I faithfully restore the motor using the 24 volt system, Do I convert to 12 volt, or do I completely go another route and replace the 230 flathead with a V8 or diesel. This is my least attractive alternative since it would be the most costly and require metal fabrication skills beyond my level. Since the current wiring is useless, this is not a big factor. But the cost of 24 volt M37 components like rebuilding the original distributor, generator, new voltage regulator possible and 24 volt spark plug wires I see costing near $500. This leaves me with replacing the oil pump and distributor with a civilian one for the 230, using a 1 wire alternator, 1 battery, solenoid equipped starter and 12 volt bulbs and fuel sender unit. Please contribute your thoughts though I dont need to make a decision for a while.
