I believe you already answered part of your question, you say you dont have the fab skills
for a diesel or V8. So forget that approach as a lot of fab work is needed.
Convert to 12 volt and enjoy your M37. But DO NOT do a 1 wire alternator !! go to Madelectric.com surf to the tech section then read about 1 vs 3 wire alternators. Much other great info in lay mans terms you might want to consider while reading in the tech section.
