There is a trend by some to have the new electric vehicles to add sound as a indicator they are there and have the people stop walking out front of them.
Acceleration of electric vehicles out performs internal combustion vehicles of similar $$ value.
Some of our first vehicles were electric, but the technology of power storage was not ample for anything other than short city trail.
When internal combustion became the norm, there was +/- 20 years where Horse usage was drastically reduced, there was the same sceptic talk regarding the new horseless carriage, until it was widely accepted.
Electric vehicles may not be the total answer, with small Hydrogen Generators and other non petroleum based power being perfected.
I will always enjoy my Power Wagon and other Old Iron, but openminded to new technology.
Even charging from the grid that's power is generated by petroleum driven plants is more efficient than independent power plants in vehicles. AS well as cost effective.
Yes they currently use petroleum to mine , transport, and fabricate the new batteries, If their consumption of petroleum was excessive the price of the batteries will represent that usage.
