Only give you the 3/16-18 thread to housing.

Are you suggesting with this method that you’ll
Leave the solid remaining “shank” as a pilot kinda stud to keep the diff centered to the housing?

Or you saying that, after cutting the 3/8-16 thread, turn it around and now cut the 7/16-14 thread on the opposite side?
