Putin is quite sane, he is an expansionist same as China (buddies now) and intends to take Ukraine, Poland, and the other prior U.S.S.R states. He is attacking Democracy of the West, Liberal Left Globalism, testing of NATO, and the threat of Nuclear War to get what he wants.
China will buy his oil and supplement Visa and Master Card with China's currency system so Putin will not experience much damage to his economy or War Machine. Only 6 banks in Russia have been restricted out of 350 banks in the SWIFT Banking system, due to sanctions, not much of an impact on his economy.
Look at the wonderful Iran deal. For the deal to work, Russia wants sanctions removed, Iran wants certain terrorists groups removed from the terrorist list, and since this administration is desperate to get a deal, they probably will agree to it.
Because of the Nuclear threat, Putin is in the cat bird seat. The free world will give in not wanting a N-War, let's face it, Americans still in Ukraine can't get assistance from America Embassy to get out, for fear of getting into a conflict with Russia, another Afghanistan.
We can call Putin, crazy, a Tyrant, Dictator, or any other name, but he has an agenda, one that doesn't conform to the free world. Sanctions, Diplomatic talks, and meetings are not going to sway him, unless, you agree to his terms. Strength, is what he responds to.
