My wood cutter buddy and I have been harvesting a large stand of oak and hickory timber off of the mountain the last couple days. While bringing in a turn of logs to the landing with my Allis Chalmers HD 6 I managed to crush my 4 year old Stihl MS260 saw rendering it beyond repair. Remembering I had an old 40 year old Stihl 031 stashed away that has not been used in many years, I added fresh gas, oil, and filed the chain. After pulling the rope starter 8 times it fired and we finished the day.
Reminds me of a 1952 Dodge pickup I have that has not been started in 7 years. On a 20 degree day recently, I added fresh (non-ethanol gas), filed the points and cranked it over with a fully charged 6V battery and it came to life. Reminded me of this old saw which is mostly put together with metal, has a carburetor and still runs as compared to the plastic (but lighter and great performing) saws of today. The 1956 AC HD 6 runs like a top with a little grease here and there and some no. 2 diesel. All is well on the mountain!
