Part of my research and development for this project was the discussion with the engineers about having to machine the drum with the hub. We used the original OEM print for all the data along with several samples of NOS drums for QC. Every engineer told me the same thing. If a part number was issued for a hub and a drum with separate numbers, that it is not necessary to turn the drum with the hub. GM as an example did this with the Banjo axles on the CCKW. The had both de-mountable and non de-mountable hub drum sets. The non demountable drums could only be turned with the hub. All others could be mixed and matched. Now, having said that, there are always imperfections and an allowable tolerance deviation. These deviations were not much and according to the engineers, should not affect the performance or roundness of the drum to the hub. Between the center of the drum diameter and the countersunk screws, it should be self aligning.
