12v to 110 converter

I hope this question comes across clearer than my question about engine heaters. Here goes:
My '06 CTD has a factory block heater which I understand is a 750w unit.
Would a 12v/110v converter work for 2 or 3 hours off of a fully charged battery, or does that battery need to be receiving a charge from a charging system?
