Update: After searching the net a bit, I can't find one single case where somebody complains about the charging system shutting off while using their winch. I also found a PDF of the Power Wagon owner's manual which states you can run the engine, and assist with the drive wheels while winching. So I'm going to assume that my case is not normal. So far it looks like the winch is pulling about 60a just spooling the cable in or out, and roughly 380a sliding all four tires on dry pavement, with only one layer unwrapped off the spool, with the ambient temp around 80deg. Those numbers don't seem outta line to me, so I'm going to assume the winch is functioning as it should. When the charging system cuts off the winch is pulling approximately 360a. It remains off for about 5sec, then it "resets" itself. At no time has the winch stopped pulling, unless I let off the button. My neighbor has a regular 03' Hemi truck with a winch also. He says his will run the battery down, to where the winch won't pull the load, but the charging system doesn't shut down. He also has the winch power lead attached to the stud on the fuse panel, and the ground lead is attached to the body of the truck. Both my winch leads are attached to the battery, which I thought was standard practice??
