Spring tension on the mechanism has noting to do with install.

Make sure that the stop screws are out. Put the glass in its tracks in the door let it rest on the bottom. Then install the crank mechanism. Tighten its screws. Now turn the crank until the ends with the rollers are wide open. Now lift the window until the bottom track is even with the rollers. The rollers should be wider than the track. Now turn the crank so that the rollers go into the ends of the track. Once both sides are in (it can be a balancing act) and continue to crank until the rollers are inside of the stop screw holes. Now install stop screws. Window should work normally at this point.
