After re-reading my post, I'd like to add that I happen to be very proud when I open up the engine hoods and show off the original 230, that also starts up every single time, the first time. The beast is completely stock, including the oil-bath air cleaner. The only thing I've done is add a Napa filter element to the fuel bowl of the mechanical fuel pump. I am also thinking about adding an external oil filter, as mine is without.

Question: What are we doing about unleaded gasoline in these flatheads? Is this as important as some people think? The slant six engines were designed for unleaded fuel. It is my understanding that the valves in the 230 need the leaded fuel. If this really is important, are there readily available additives?
