replacement glove box

It looks like I will have to remove my original glove box, which is in very good condition, in order to remove the defroster hose from the duct. I believe these are made with the slit in the top so you can fold it in a bit and pull through the glove box opening. Is this right? And, if so, are the steel replacements made the same way? I hope not to ruin the original one, but it almost seems a given. Thanks.
