You hit the nail on the head with the prep work by hand, and sanding. Folks tend to want to leave a part of the real process out, not believing that it's really needed. And then wonder later why it came out the way it did. Remember that more speed makes more heat, and the more heat, the more things change, for better or worse. Depending on what you are trying to achieve. I'm getting ready to buff the trim on the Challengers, a nice winter project I can do in the basement. I've used 2500 on most of it (paper) but would like to get it down to 3000, saving buffing work. All stainless (thank God) I'm glad there ain't no chrome on these old cars! ( well, maybe the bumpers!)
