So now that the W-100 has its 20/20 paint job, (looks good at 20 feet or 20 MPH!) I decided to take it out today. I had a list of stops to make and then a meeting with a client. I was driving along as happy as could be had gone about 8 miles when I got that unmistakable smell of hot antifreeze. The temp gauge was right where it should be. I pulled over in a school parking lot and popped the hood. The first thing I saw was the entire top of the engine was drenched with antifreeze. Burst hose? Nope, a 3" crack in the brass top tank of the radiator. I hopped back in and headed home. The temperature stayed within a good range, I got home fine, swapped trucks and went back to my errands.
I pulled the radiator tonite, I am confident it can be soldered, I will take it in tomorrow to be done.
The lower radiator hose was ancient, and held on with those round wire spring clamps that are a true invention of the devil. I had tried to get it off when I first got the truck but gave up on it. With the radiator out it was a lot easier to remove, so the side benefit is the last of the grotty hoses will be gone.
Tim
