I was reading a report about tire safety from ABC News, which was basically an attack on WalMart whom they accused of selling "aged tires" although the proof of that was scant, The following statement was offered by a Goodyear spokesman.

"Goodyear and the U.S. tire industry trade also say that age is not the key factor in tire safety, and that consumers should pay attention to other maintainance issues. According to Goodyear spokesman Jim Davis, "We don't support age-based limits on tires because there's no scientific data to support that."

Some of the biggest tire manufacturers, including Bridgestone/Firestone and Michelin, however, have issued bulletins to retailers calling for tires to be removed from service 10 years after the date of manufacture.

There you have it. Somewhere between, age isn't an issue and 10 years from manufacture.

Now who you gonna believe?

Me, I ain't throwing out a tire which has no obvious problems just because someone who wants to sell me more tires say I should.
