You are right with all of that. I think the 727 you are talking about might be called a 518 but I am not sure when that designation started. I think one of the best low cost things you can do for the 47RE's is to hook up a lock up switch for the torque converter. I put one on mine and you can keep it manually locked if you are pulling hard and minimize the heat build up. I put a trans temp gauge on mine and it climbs pretty fast when it is unlocked. Doesn't have to be a hard pull and it will climb 20-30 degrees.
