Brakes on 1948 PW

My dad and I just got a 1948 Flat Fender. He's going to let me fix it up, but I am new at this stuff. I am 15 years old and I think I am a Power Wagon Nut. Anyway, the brake pedal on the first try goes all the way to the floor. On the second try, it stops about half way. The truck seems to stop - slowly. My dad thought there might be air in the lines. Does anybody have any ideas before I go any further?
