Message:   I really haven't heard of any diesel issues except for certain lift pumps that were eliminated in 2002.
Cummins/Dodge has a 70,000 mile + warranty (mine is 100,000) so can't think of anything that would be expensive that wouldn't covered by warranty. Most Cummins will last 300,000+ before needing any work.
Maybe Gary was talking about other parts of his truck not associated with the diesel?
Diesels have fewer moving parts, less electronics, and get better fuel economy by far.
The downside is higher initial cost and the cost of oil changes and filters, about $54 for each oil change.
