None of the cannister type that use a sock are full-flow. The engine circulates about 10% of the oil through the filter when running. If your engine lines are like the picture, one out of the block to the top of the cannister and one out the bottom to above the plugger, it's a by-pass filter and that is the correct placement of the lines.
