Portland Fire sent 2 Task Forces to Wenatchee in the early 90's. That was the first deploymnent like that for us. No training to speak of in Wildland Fire fighting. E-13 was in a valley as protection for some homes when the fire blew over the top of them. They figured about 1/2 mile. They HAD felt pretty safe. There was real fast education since they literally had to drive as fast as they could to get out. They very nearly did not make it. One guy had a video camera and filmed the whole thing. There was fire falling all around them, they had fire in the cab and hose bed and one guy didn't have a helmet on and got burnt on his head. Mind you, these guys had a LOT of experience (all over 15 yrs) also and nearly got caught. I am sure the video did not do justice to what happened as I am sure your pictures do not either. Glad you and your cabin escaped unscathed. Nothing to fool around with is it? Glad you got some fish also.
