Such a stop would undoubtedly sacrifice the brake assembly as well as the transfer case. I was forced to do exactly this in a Land Rover once, headed downhill at over 50mph. It ripped the entire brake assembly off the case, ruined the rear of the transfer case casting and the rear driveshaft, and flung most of the brake assembly through the floorboards. I was left wondering which wreck was worse...the one I was avoiding, or the one I caused! My 2 cents is don't use the brake in this manner unless it's live or die. Even in a desparate situation, it may not stop you anyway.
