Having spent a career in instrumentation, the best connections, and the way I do it now, is a combination of these approaches. First, twist the ends of the stranded wire and tin them completely with solder. Then crimp them in the connector. Then fill the void space in the crimped connection with solder so you don't have that single point connection. The solder in the stranded wire will merge with the new solder making a continuous connection. Then use shrink tube to insulate the connection. Double shrink tube is even better for connections that might abrade. Rob Steller might have something to add to this.
