Incorrect. The true 1 wire alternators do not drain the battery. The ones with the additional wire running from the spade plug to the BATT terminal will drain your battery. It sounds like a good solution to run that connection through the ignition switch which would stop the battery drain.
The high RPM is not there to take care of the battery drain as there is no battery drain on the true 1 wire alternators. Not all 1 wire have the high RPM issue. Just some of them. The shop seems them from time to time.
