My best guess is that you have a very worn and loose timing chain that jumped teeth.

You mention the engine has sit about 5 years. In that time some rust took over and partially seized the engine. On you first attempt to start, the starter forced the engine past the rust
and allowed it to crank. However when the starter engaged and the engine cranked, the rusted seized area (wherever it is) gave enough resistance that the very worn LOOSE timing chain jumped teeth. How many, any ones guess. I would believe you will find rust in the valve train that caused this resistance. Please keep us informed what you find a the final problem.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
