it is simply a variable resistor, v+ goes to one terminal (either one) and the other goes to chassis ground. to test, take an ohm meter set to ohms x1 then clip the meter to the terminals when you lift the float the meter should go to zero ohms, when you let the float down the meter should read some ohms, i dont remember the number but i think its around 100 ohms. since it is simply a resistor voltage does not matter, voltage is applied through the gage then to the sender where it gets grounded depending on the float level / resistance, make sure the gage is the proper one for your battery voltage ie: 6 or 12v
