I would drop the pan and look for the drip.

It's also possible that if it was run for long time w/out antifreeze, thermostat, and pressure cap, there may be severe pitting of a cylinder wall water jacket. Right behind the side core plugs, where the wrist pin bottoms out. It's the hottest part, so water boils causing steam pits. They look like cavitation on a boat prop.
