I have a early 51 PW with the original bed wood. It is exactly the same as the picture shows above.
Not that some of the boards were cut on a diagonal then glued with another to make a straight board. You can see this in the board just left of enter in this picture. The front of the cut out for the center hinge is sloped. I.E. it is not cut at 90 degrees like the side cuts to get to depth. It has a radius almost like it was cut with a saw blade. I have always wondered what type of tool was used to cut it.
