1/2 t axles work in the later diffs/ side gears. The splines just don't get full contact.
That was in a late 1/2 t command car, 11" front brakes, 14" rear. 1975. I remember swapping in an M37 rear diff, but I can't for the life of me remember doing the front. But the whole front axle was from an ambulance frame.... was it a 3/4T ambulance? But..but... 1975 is a loooong time ago.
