I agree with you Marty, I have had a Smittybilt 10K winch mounted in my 17 Ram since new. I mounted it using modern Power Wagon brackets and hardware. I don't use it too often but its always worked fine. Front of a truck in Vermont isn't a friendly place for anything!
The Harbor Freight Badlands winches get good reviews also, I wouldn't hesitate to use one on a trailer.
