Oil leak at the pinion set screw?

I was installing chains this morning and noticed a oil on the rear differential. It appears to be coming from the pinion depth set screw on the opposite side from the fill plug.

How is this possible? A cracked case?

Hoping to run it until spring, by checking the oil level more often. Is that a BAD idea?
