I guess box would be OK. Its bending it to fit that will be the problem. I took flat sheet metal and cut out the sides then welded the three pieces together on one. The other one I was just able to cut a piece of metal and weld a patch into the piece.
I might want to use a "C" shaped piece of metal. You can weld along the edges and then you can use a spot weld bit in the bottom of the "C" then plug weld those holes. It will give additional strength. I tend to do plug welds wherever I can, especially on braces and supports, as it adds strength.
Yea I found one in a junkyard. I got the 1/2 cab, transmission, PTO, and a complete winch with extensions and bumpers. It was years ago and it was dirt cheap. Less than $125 for everything. He wanted it out of there. I did have to completely rebuild the winch, extensions and bumpers as it was really beat up.
