The M37 is a 4 pinion. The early WC3/4 tons were 2 pinions and later 4 were used that's why there is a difference in length of axle shafts on the 3/4 tons. Both axles use the same part number, and it can be a problem if your installing the longer axle. I've looked through the interchange manual and it's seems you did everything correct.
