The integral loop style props as designed on the Power-Wagon hoods work very well, as long as the parts are not missing, worn out, bent, altered, or more importantly - as long as the hood is adjusted correctly and squarely on the truck.

I have one truck where no amount of adjusting will prevent one hood side from falling on occasion. It appears that the spring steel hoop prop has been stressed over the years. Fortunately, I found a simple solution to the problem.

When raising either side of the hood, the loop style hood prop automatically snaps into position in the notched catch riveted to the firewall. The upper "finger" of the catch above the notch is designed to not allow the prop loop to over travel above or beyond the notch. Because the loop seems to be weakened or bent somewhat from years of use, I find it is easy to grab ahold of while raising and temporarily tease it forward in the same way you would as if you were lowering the hood. Now the loop can be raise past the "finger" as well as the notch and rest securely above the finger where it sits in a "Vee" created between the finger angling upward and the upper roll of the firewall.

It takes a little more of a tug on the loop now in order to lower the hood, but it is worth the effort.
