Preventative maintenance or throwing cash away?

I prefer to troubleshoot issues rather than simply exchange parts, but I have a question for the 'more seasoned' members.

I pulled the radiator and fuel tank from the 52 FFPW. The tank had some moderate dents on the bottom and evidence of varnish on the outside- inside was rust-free but had some varnish. Radiator was revers-flushed, with the entire top tank filled with rat's nest and even (2) dead mice! My Uncle is an engineer and a great good ol' boy mechanic said to run 'em til you see a problem. However, I like the peace of mind of immediately taking both to a radiator shop to clean/verify issues.

So, for $135, he threw both in the cleaning solution and stated that both were leak free and pressure tested great. He did say that once the rad gets warm, that leaks may then surface.

So, are you in the frame of mind to 'run 'em til there's a problem, or is a thorough cleaning an appropriate route? For what it's worth, he warranties his findings.
