If the seal surfaces are in good shape and you use a modern rubber type seal, it's fine for higher speeds. I would think leather if not dry, would be fine as well. I've driven my truck 60mph and resulted in no problems.
Even if you spent upwards of $10,000 on a swap, to be able to have a truck that performed more like a modern day truck, would it be worth it? Comparing to the cost of a new truck, it's a good dollar value.
