Best to stitch weld it
Weld 1/2-1" section skipping 2-3" going down the entire area needing welding, then start over with more beside where you started , continue to weld short areas and move eventually it will be fully welded
If you need to fill a area clamp a brass plate behind and weld up the gap, then remove brass and buff out
