Where the ring was split, and I could see what I was cutting, I used a hacksaw type blade on a sawzall, and kept stopping and checking out to see what I was sawing. It went well, and maybe did not even nick the wheel. The backside was easier and more difficult. Easier because I knew what I was dealing with, and more difficult because there was no break in the ring for easy access to the cable. I ended up using a cutoff wheel on a rotary tool and cut off material around the sides to open up the cut to see what I was cutting. Funny, it is a small 12V cordless rotary tool with very little power or torque, but it worked.
