Lots of good suggestions. I decided while doing mine I wanted something secure and useful to work on the cab too. The underside was finished like the top so I made attachment points on the hinges and door latch. made it adjustable for balance and was WELL worth the time as I plan on doing a couple more trucks. Heck, I had the bed on before I had the front axle in! My build was custom so It was even tighter than a normal reassembly But I had plenty of people watching as I lowered in with the engine already installed. Towels like was mentioned and several layers of tape on edges. I had no issues or scratches till it was done. You can see how it all works in the linked album. Just do what suits your situation.
