My '51 was titled by the engine number. Apparently that was common in Wisconsin at the time as I bought it from the original owner. If I would have kept quiet about it, Illinois would never have known the difference. Without thinking, I pointed it out to them. I had to send the title back to the original owner to get it changed in Wisconsin so Illinois could process it. Bad mistake. Original title was kept and destroyed by Wisconsin. I could have kept quiet and Illinois would have let me keep the original Wisconsin title in the original owner's name for posterity (voided of course).
