I have the same problem with the same plug on the same cylinder. I tried that thick black Permatex pipe thread sealant, which usually works for anything. Still have the problem. It appears to be a missmatch between male and female threads.
FYI. I too did not take it out when I first installed the cylinder. It leaked bad. When I took it out, I found there was no sealant on it at all. I just wish my Permatex fix would have worked.
