Phasing of the yokes at the ends of the driveshaft is just as important as balancing. Treat the transfer case as a driveshaft also and properly phase the input and output yokes to each other. If you do this, remember to do it after every time you drive in low range as doing so will put the yokes out of phase.

I can tell right away if I forgot to phase the yokes on my transfer cases after I have driven in low range. It is not as bad of a vibration as a bent shaft, but more than a shaft that is slightly out of balance.

Also, do not rely upon the little arrows stamped into the drive shafts. Even though they may be pointing at one another, one never knows what work may have been done to a driveshaft in the past. The arrows may not have any meaning anymore. Always phase the yokes at either end by visual alignment. It is also possible that if shoddy work was once done on a driveshaft, that it will be impossible to phase them exactly as the splines could be a half, one third, etc. off from where they should be.
