I had the same thing happen to the fuel pump on my 47 WDX. Fortunately it happened in my driveway, just after driving it out of the garage.
After shortening the pin about 1/8 th of an inch and getting it reassembled, I used a hammer and center punch to swell the cast metal out into the hole and slightly over the ends of the pin. I punched it in 4 places on both ends at the 3,6,9 and 12 o clock position. That was 3 or 4 years ago, and it hasn't moved since. JJB>
