re install tension wavey spring front axle knuckle

Is there a trick to putting that wavey spring back in with new felt on the front axle steering knuckle? I tried for 2 hours to put that spring back in there. I would get about 4 inches of it back in and the loose end would drag it back out. tried de-burring the entire spring and shoving it in from one end, no go. Is there a trick to it, or a tool or aid to get it in? any thoughts or knowledge would be appreciated.
