Re question 1, that is incorrect. The pin does NOT move in the heavy iron portion of the hinge. The pin rotates in the light metal portion of the hinge, which quickly wears and enlarges the hole. VPW used to sell pins and bushings for rebuilding them.

According to Mark DuVerger, the pin does move on the cast arm - Mark in Santa Cruz 16:17:32 11/17/2020
