Greetings,

I can't find any replacement door hinges for my W200 so I am attempting to rebuild my existing hinges. However, I am unable to drive the hinge pin out as it seems to be frozen on the center door part of the hinge. I am also unclear as to how these hinges are supposed to function.

I have tried penetrating oil, heat/freezing, and vice grip press. I then took it to a machine shop that couldn't get the pin to press out without damaging the hinge itself.

1. Can someone confirm that the center door side of the hinge is supposed to rotate feely around the pin and that the outer body side of the hinge and pin move together as one unit?

2. Any best practices on how to rebuild these hinges? For example, a local machine shop recommended replacing the pins with a bolt (said manufacturers used pins because they were cheaper and faster to install).

3. Anyone know of a source for rebuilt hinges?

Thanks,
Mark
